ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Myra

WHERE I COME FROM

I was born in Sumter, South Carolina, but moved to Charleston when I was 13.  My father’s family has lived here since the 1700’s, so it has always been home to me.  After graduating from St. Andrews High School, I married a Citadel Graduate and spent the next four years as an Army Officer’s wife in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.  We then moved to Stockton, California, where my two oldest children, Chrissy and Guy (aka “Bubba”) were born.

Six years later, I returned home as a single mother of two children, ages 2 and 3, worked full time at a local law office, went back to school at night, and obtained my Paralegal Degree from Trident Technical College.

Within a few years, I met my now-husband, David Jones, and we became a family.  Our youngest, Jonathan, came along soon thereafter, and our family was complete.  That is, until our daughter blessed us with four grandsons!   Our daughter passed away in 2019, but she lives on in her children. Three live in the upstate, and one lives here in Mount Pleasant.

I have lived in Mount Pleasant since 1990, and our family has thrived in our wonderful community.  I’ve been a member of Bethel United Methodist Church (Charleston) since 1988, and have volunteered my time and talents to our church and to charities and nonprofits for over 20 years.  I have also enjoyed my hobby of performing in local theater and in independent films over the years.

A LIFELONG CAREER

I began working in the legal field as a runner for a small firm on Broad Street in downtown Charleston when I was 16, and have never left the field.  In fact, other than taking a small amount of time off after childbirth, I have worked continuously for 46 years.

In Arizona, I worked in the branch office of a Tucson firm handling cases for the military families, and worked in a small firm and then the City Attorney’s Office when I lived in Stockton, California.

Upon my return to Charleston, I first worked for Young Clement (Rivers and Tisdale) for 10 years, and then Buist Moore Smythe & McGee (now Womble Bond Dickinson) for 16 years, before becoming the Corporate Paralegal to the General Counsel at The InterTech Group where I have been for over 8 years.

Over the years, I have handled cases ranging from family law, employment law, bankruptcy, foreclosure, probate, estate planning, patents, trademarks, real estate, wrongful death, litigation (of all sorts), class action, product liability, administrative law and almost everything else you can imagine.

Working with brilliant legal minds and on complex cases has been a thrill and pleasure over the years. My cases have been heard in many courts across our state, including the South Carolina Supreme Court.

I have also learned the art of negotiation, compromise, and how to deal with difficult situations and people.  This has instilled in me the hard-work ethic, and the knowledge that something is either right, or it is wrong.
